August 2020 world wide events

wonder | wander | women are happy to include all and enjoy wide and diverse occasions to celebrate. August is a month that packs many special holidays - both enjoyable and solemn.

Religious festivals, stellar sights, harvest celebrations, cultural extravaganzas - even with most of the public gatherings significantly scaled down due to travel restrictions or pandemic lockdowns - communities and families gather together more intimately.

new moon boon

A new moon in Leo can teach us how to recognize the shape of our own pride when it blocks our blessing. It can teach us how to share ourselves with the world, even when we feel like the world is primed to reject our offering. That’s because Leo rules the heart and is the sign of adoration, of wanting to adore and be adored. Of knowing that the best way to get what you want is acting like you already have it. ~ Nylon, New Moon in Leo 2020

Peace Fountain at St John the Divine

wonder | wander | women travel back in time to the last tour we were on together, St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City. We arrived early and spent some time in the sculpture garden beside the cathedral, home of the famous Peace Fountain.

The fountain was created by sculptor Greg Wyatt, artist-in-residence at St. John the Divine, in 1985. A gorgeous bronze edifice, it mixes mythological symbols with science: Michael defeats Satan over figures of the sun and moon, but there are also giraffes, crabs and a DNA helix to symbolise life.

violent upheavals

Born and raised in the tropical islands of the Pacific equator, wonder |wander | women love our fierce booming storms. Recalling wild weather, exposed to severe forces of nature, on a flat little island with nowhere to ran or hide.

That Grrr! feeling of Lt. Dan - defiant as he cursed the heavens, up on a matchstick mast, lost in a vast ocean in the movie Forrest Gump. Puny human against the raw elements at the height of a sea tempest.

Since this corona pandemic isolated us all indoors, weather patterns have improved significantly with the lessening of our human footprint and intervention. Not enough to make a dent in climate change since we have been way too misbehaved before we were forced to, although this could not have been timelier.
