Every year the human body and its abilities grow beyond expectations. wonder | wander | women are longtime fans of theatre performance and especially dance, so when we heard that the new Sadler's Wells program was created by "dancer, choreographer, illustrator" Sadeck Berrabah, we were excited.
The title of the show comes from starling murmurations. A murmuration is simply the collective noun for a group of starlings, but it has come to mean the mysteriously synchronised movements of huge flocks of starlings, especially when they gather to settle in their nests for the night. The UK and Italy are famous for these wild spectacles.
How the starlings fly so close together without colliding is still unknown, although scientists are studying the phenomenon closely and may be close to a breakthrough. However it's done, the murmurations are incredible to watch.
This is the idea behind Murmurations Level 2: the mesmerizing unity of human movement and the shapes the body can make. Berrabah "draws" with his dancers, creating patterns and living animations with limbs, clothes and props, as well as the pure forms of contemporary dance.
It was such a delight to watch and participate in this spectacle and we wish everyone the joy of seeing the power of dance!
