dreaming our world into being

Traditionally a shaman is tasked with keeping the tribe healthy by predicting the future accurately. To do so the shaman steps into alternate dimensions usually in dream time. It is the shaman's role role then to dream a world into being.

The Maya believed in cyclical and not linear time, where all is suspended in nothing and everything happens all at once. They call it Time of No Time, where we can go in any direction we want by dreaming it. Our dreams can shift the course of the world, in a moment and for all eternity.

sketches from the soul

In Catholic school art class I would always be scolded for drawing. Our teachers assigned projects that were more suited for factories or souvenir shops than art galleries: a lamp, a figure made of seashells, a crochet scrapbook, a bound journal that we were not allowed to draw in. Everything had to be constructed the same way; everything had to look uniform.

feeding our souls

On a Viber thread with some former dorm mates from university, it was a joy to read this piece of light fun - especially with everything so sensitive and explosive going on.

In the Philippines much of our culture and conversation are rooted in, on, and around food. We delight over its history, preparation, cooking, displaying, eating, and most definitely describing it in its minutest detail and obscure facet.
