lune time | loon time

wonder | wander | women love our moon. We get positively looney over it.

Waxing and waning through its phases. Weaving waves of wonder through its moonbeams.

The Capricorn full moon on February 19 falls in the sign of Virgo and is the strongest super moon of the year. On this day the moon will be closest to the earth for the year.

It is also called a snow moon in Native American tradition for the typically heavy snowfall of February. On average February is the snowiest month in the USA according to data from the National Weather Service.

Other full moon names include the Shoulder to Shoulder Around the Fire Moon from the Wishram people of the Pacific Northwest or the No Snow in the Trails Moon from the Zuni of the Southwest.

The Cherokee of the Southeast refer to it as the bone moon. This meant there was so little food that people gnawed on bones and ate bone marrow soup to sustain themselves.

All along the eastern seaboard it is the deepest time of winter. When most blizzards descend and temperatures dip to their coldest. Polar vortex season according to our newscasters.

The good news is the frosty air is crystal clear and makes for the best viewing for our silvery moon maiden. Dreamtime stuff for children and poets, shamans and ordinary folks.

Shining its magical light down on our world and causing us to look up in wonder and delight.
