Bali bliss

It seems like the whole world is back to flitting and flying - vacationing any and every where humanly possible. Taking to the air in record numbers - as pandemic fears fade and restrictions are lifted all around the world.

Day 1 at our Bali home for the week , Manyi Village Ubud

Summer fling flung floom! A welcome boom for the travel business even if the sudden glut after three years of bare movement has caused major adjustments and problems.

Delayed and cancelled flights, airport and travel changes in protocol, not enough staff to go around, and many other challenges are also at an all time high.

For the truly committed, the travel bug bitten, and the ones who absolutely need to the itch to zip and zap to all available destinations has exploded in full living color.

After four years of sheltering in place in the US wonder | wander | women are back in Asia after a longer than usual break away. After almost six months in the Philippines we flew to Bali for a women's voice workshop and retreat mid June.

Bali is what we wish our own tropical island home still looked like. Even in its current over run state of foreign travelers and long staying or extended visitors the land and locals manage to hold on to its exotic spirit.

Balinese culture has pervaded western film, art, literature and music so that even those who've never been there have enjoyed a glimpse of paradise.

Bali attracts hordes of foreign visitors and transplants. What makes it so special, and how has it managed to preserve its identity despite a century of intense pressure from the around world?

Culture and rituals prevail amidst a tsunami of outer invasion and inner expansion. Folks escaping their winters or opting to summer away, healers and those seeking to heal, adventurers and explorers, tourists and travelers - Bali is the Mekka that has drawn many and lures more to its bliss beckoning landscape.

A land as old as time. A culture as rich as it is faceted. Fragmented and fissured maybe. Its allure continues to attract and bewitch us all.
