planet vs plastics

Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and brighter future.

This year wonder | wander | women are in the Philippines to celebrate the dual birthdays of our oldest and youngest Taurean males in the family.

Earth Day 2024

Being in the East for Earth Day, we are forced to confront the contrast between how we deal with plastics over here versus over there. 

The northern hemisphere and its many first world countries have several programs and campaigns that remind and restrict the public about the variety of abuses and dangers of plastic build up creates and causes. Yet the west is among the highest ranked plastic waste consumers.

In poorer developing countries necessity can cause folks to reuse and recycle more often. Although too much plastic still clog our waterways and bleed into the islands and oceans we live in. To pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink, the air we breathe. 

Each year on 22 April, around a billion people around the world take action to raise awareness of the climate crisis and bring about behavioral change to protect the environment.

The global theme for this year's Earth Day is 'Planet vs. Plastics', which recognizes the threat plastics pose to human health and with campaigners demanding a 60% reduction in the production of plastics by 2040. 

Cooperation and collaboration are crucial in our fragmented constantly changing world. Key opportunities for action can be taken locally or internationally, individually or collaboratively to significantly reduce the impact of global risks.

The next decade will usher in a period of impactful choices - stretching our adaptive capacity to the limit. Resulting in entirely different futures over this time frame - through our actions to address global risks today we can shape a more positive path

Let us do what we need to and work together to make it our collective global reality.
