Being back here in the Philippines after a four year hiatus brings this all back home to us. Alleluia! Lent and Holy Week in our native island home is yet another immersion into our childhood.

Palm Sunday marks the start of the pageantry and penance particular to the Philippines. Ending with Easter celebrations and the return to feasting after a 40 day fast.

The Lenten season is colorful potluck mix of colonized Catholic religiosity interpreted in personalized practices among our local communities.

Most of its original meaning and purpose have long been lost in time and countless oral reinterpretations passed down within families and throughout their communities.
