Filipino attire & attitude

Of the many celebrations of the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, our attention was captured by the poster of NHCP Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo and the Municipality of Kawit event - "Mga Sáyang Pumilayláy: The Lilith Reyes-Perez Collection".

The exhibit which opens on the 12th of June 2024, at the Aguinaldo Shrine posted this promotional pitch - an instant draw for wonder | wander | women

As its hemline once danced the rigodon, it now emerges gently on the floor of the House of Independence, asserting once more its role of redefining beauty and femininity to embody history and the interplay between individual expression and tradition.

custom made

Whether there's a pandemic on or not we still love our clothes; why wait for an occasion to dress up? Mom is a master of alterations and as a short stocky person with small shoulders and wide hips, I reap the benefits of her sewing projects.

It is Award Season once again but since events and entries were so "meh" this year wonder | wonder | women choose to focus instead on the fashion statements of the stars.

Here are the wardrobe choices from this year's events.

Shakespeare at Selfridges

wonder | wander | women love clothes and dressing up and we definitely enjoy fashion trends and their marketing campaigns.

We also know and work with good folks who adore branding and branded stuff. We love and are entertained as we tag along on trips to fashion havens, peeking into closets full of Rick Owens and Ted Baker and Louboutin.

But our interest is more curious than personal. There's one thing we and our fashionista friends agree on: we LOVE shop display windows. The bigger, the better. The flashier, the more fun!

oddments and curiosities at Dover Street Market

Dover Street Market is famous among fashionistas. The brainchild of Comme des Garcons designer Rei Kawakubo, the very modern five-story building on Dover Street is nothing like the city's free-for-all markets - it's the most exclusive retail centre for high-end designs fresh off the runway. Comme des Garcons, Alaia, Alexander McQueen and other Fashion Week brands line the racks and shelves.

A sample of the brands available.

Our friends enjoyed their shopping, but wonder | wander | women ended up doing what we often do - wandering off in a new direction, completely distracted by the charm of Dover Street Market's decor.

CHINA at the Met Museum NYC

wonder | wander | women continues a recent post commissioned for Kate's Paperie because [1] it is a fine topic, [2] there is always more to be said and covered, and [3] it is a discussion dear to our palpitating hearts.

Every fine story has many facets to it and its own Rashomon effect and we are retelling this from yet another perspective.

Most of the coverage for this event has been from the Westerner's enthralled enchantment of orientalia and chinoiserie.
