Via 57 NYC

New York City is a favoured iconic destination for many. Bound to be featured in many a bucket list.

VIA 57 West

wonder | wander | women certainly count NYC among the top ten places close to our hearts.

Recent visits had us staying at our home away from home, Via  - part of the 57 West super block neighborhood.

Bjarke Ingels's captivating tetrahedron was named the best tall building in the Americas category at the 2016 Tall Buildings Award by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

Eye candy as the structure is, the building delivers over the moon amenities and conveniences that can keep you entertained indoors.

It occupies half a NYC block and is parked smack central in midtown on the west side, with a grand view of the Hudson River.

At Lincoln Center

Much as we loved staying at Via, no one can deny the siren call of NYC for long. Each day found us out and about the city that never sleeps.

on our walk home

late night ladder call

It may not waste a wink at night but NYC is slow to wake the next morning. Giving us ample time to linger over our morning coffee.

longhand journaling

pen nib choices

We filled pages on our daily journals. Playing with our pens and inks. Practicing our longhand with different fonts and styles. Deciding what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go.

Mahala's first meal in NYC

exposed ceilings of Hudson Market

We would usually mosey over to the Hudson Market on the corner for brunch. Before heading out for our adventurous exploration of the day. Exhibit or show. Museum or theater.

Theater District, Times Square

At the Frick Collection

Eager and curious as we walked through streets and parks, shops and eateries. People watching, window shopping, picture taking. Immersing ourselves in NYC's steaming masses.

bright lights, big city

NYPD blues

Making like the natives. Enjoying being wide eyed tourists. Watching and wandering. Enjoying it all knowing it is all so transitory. Catch it while you can.

Manhattanhenge, Grand Central Station

big rig, tight streets

Sometimes we miss the older feel of NYC. Less crowded and more elegant. The constant construction and ever increasing development cast huge shadows that loom overhead and blanket ground level in dimness.

Driven and driving it takes reminding to not rush and hyperventilate within the concrete confines of NYC. Steady and sedate are hard to come by and not pursued much around here. That is saved for other places, other times.

Here we greedily try and suck up all we can. Knowing it won't last for much longer. New York! New York! Forever burning its wick at both ends. Fun and furious.
